Adventure Carolina offers canoe and kayak trips down the Congaree, Broad, Saluda and Edisto rivers near Columbia, with two outposts on the Edisto River about an hour from Columbia. One outpost is near Branchville, the other near Walterboro. Lake Murray and other trips are also available. Adventure Carolina also rents canoes and kayaks and has a store full of paddling and outdoor gear.

Betwixt the Rivers Outfitters in Marion, SC offers canoe and kayak tours on several rivers, including Little Pee Dee, Big Pee Dee, Lumber, Lynches, Waccamaw and Black. Black River Outdoors Center offers Eddyline, Dagger, Mad River, and Perception canoes and kayaks as well as Yakima rack systems and a complete inventory of paddling accessories. Center naturalists guide kayak eco-tours in a variety of environments in the slow moving waters of the Tidelands of South Carolina. First-timers will have no troubl – but children under age 13 will ride in a tandem kayak with parents. All necessary equipment is provided on tours.

Canoe and kayak rentals include — at no extra charge — paddles, PFDs, thigh straps with surf kayaks, a jump seat for a small child in a tandem river kayak if requested, car top carriers, and tie down straps. Ask about free canoe & kayak delivery at select area locations.

Blueway Adventures, Bonneau Beach

Calm Water Kayak Tours, Ware Shoals (upstate)

Calm Water Kayak Tours offers daytime and overnight trips on upstate lakes and rivers. Tour locations include Lake Jocassee, the Saluda River, Lake Russell, Lake Greenwood, Lake Hartwell, and Lake Keowee. Charleston County Park & Recreation

Rentals – Instruction

Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission (CCPRC) offers a variety of very affordable paddling tours for people of all abilities. Options include exploring Charleston harbor, lazy tidal rivers and creeks, wildlife rich salt marshes, quiet blackwater rivers, and the dynamic surf zone and open ocean. Paddlers can choose tours that utilize sea kayaks, canoes, sit-on-tops, or stand-up paddleboards (SUP). CCPRC employees certified American Canoe Association (ACA) instructors to teach coastal and whitewater kayaking, canoeing, and surf kayaking. These ACA instructional classes provide a solid foundation for each step you take into the wonderful world of paddling. CCPRC will also be offering an exciting new program of stand-up paddleboard (SUP) lessons starting in Spring 2010.

Kayak Charleston features kayak tours on local rivers and streams, generally using trips noted in owner Ralph Earhart's guidebook (available thru the website). Tours are kept under 5 people and use recreational kayaks with large cockpits — these are relatively stable boats and paddling novices generally have no problem with their stability or maneuverability.

Lowcountry Paddlers, Charleston

Club

Members of the Lowcountry Paddlers share a common interest in paddling the coastal waters, rivers, creeks, swamps, and lakes of the South Carolina Lowcountry. Experience levels vary from Beginner to Expert while boats range from Sit-on-Tops to Expedition Sea Kayaks.
